In het Zen Boeddhisme staat Ensō voor een cirkel die in een of twee bewegingen wordt getekend. Het feit dat deze cirkel misschien niet perfect rond is maakt hierbij niet uit, deze imperfectie wordt in de Wabi Sabi filosofie juist omarmd. Na een intensieve medische en onzekere periode heeft Kauffmann voor zijn examenproject zijn eigen versie van de Ensō-cirkel gemaakt, waarbij de vorm van een stoel als archetype dient. De stoel die gewoonlijk de functie heeft om gewicht te dragen en sterk te zijn, symboliseert hier de kwetsbaarheid en imperfectie van het lichaam.
In Zen Buddhism, Ensō represents a circle drawn in one or two movements. The fact that this circle may not be perfectly round does not matter in this regard; rather, this imperfection is embraced in the Wabi Sabi philosophy. After an intensive medical period filled with insecurity, Kauffmann created his own version of the Ensō circle for his exam project, using the shape of a chair as the archetype. The chair that usually has the function of carrying weight and being strong symbolizes here the vulnerability and imperfection of the body.
